BEING B CORP

In a world where sustainability and ethical sourcing are no longer optional but essential, Hunt’s Food Group is proud to lead with purpose and innovation. As a fifth-generation family business, we’ve become a trailblazer in the food wholesale industry, driving meaningful change rather than following it. Our commitment to doing business the right way has earned us the distinction of being the second food wholesaler in the UK to achieve B Corporation (B Corp) certification, reflecting our dedication to people, the planet, and future generations.

SUSTAINABLE VISION

In an industry where sustainability and ethical sourcing matter more than ever, Hunt’s Food Group is proud to lead the way. As a multi-generational family business, we don’t just respond to change we drive it. Under the leadership of our Chairman, Richard Hunt, and his son/CEO, Thomas Hunt, we’ve grown into one of the UK’s most forward-thinking food distribution companies. But for us, it’s not just about profit, it’s about doing what’s right for our people, our planet, and generations to come. That’s why we’ve championed sustainability at every step and proudly earned our B Corporation (B Corp) certification, a mark of our commitment to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. Together, we’re working to create a better, more sustainable future for the food industry.

“For me, it’s not just about building a successful business, it’s about leaving behind something meaningful for my grandchildren and the generations that follow. At Hunt’s Food Group, we believe that doing the right thing for people, our community and the planet isn’t just good practice or for profit, it’s our responsibility."

COLLEAGUE ENGAGEMENT

Supporting local communities and charities has always been at the heart of Hunt’s Food Group. We take social responsibility seriously and are proud to be a business that cares and supports its community. Our dedicated Company Advisory Group (CAG), made up of team members from across the business, works together each year to identify key charities and local causes to support through food donations, financial contributions, and volunteering. Since its creation, CAG has allocated over £50,000 in donations, selected by our team, to causes that truly matter to us.

Just as we care for our communities, we also invest in building a strong, connected team culture. Throughout the year, we host a variety of internal events that bring our people together, none bigger than Hunts Fest, our very own company festival. It’s a chance for everyone across the business to relax, celebrate our achievements, and enjoy some well-deserved fun with colleagues and their families. These moments of connection are an important part of who we are and reflect the family values that have shaped Hunt’s Food Group for generations.

"Having worked here since I was 16, I’ve seen firsthand how Hunt’s Food Group has always been more than just a business, it’s a community. It’s been incredible to be part of a company that not only supports its employees through key moments, like the birth of my two children, but also dedicates so much to supporting local causes. The events we host, like Hunts Fest, are something we all look forward to, bringing our team together to celebrate and bond. It’s truly special to work in a place where so many employees, some with over 50 years of service, feel like family. The generosity we show to causes that matter most to us is something I’m proud to be part of every year.”

LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS

At Hunt’s Food Group, we take pride in fostering strong, meaningful partnerships with local organisations. We actively support Yeovil College by providing opportunities for students and nurturing local talent. Additionally, we proudly organise a Charity Golf Day at Sherborne Golf Club, a key event to support local causes. In 2024 we raised £13,505 for Sherborne Food Bank. Our collaboration with Sherborne Food Bank enables us to offer essential assistance to those in need within our community. We also work closely with the Somerset Community Foundation to strengthen communities through partnerships with individuals, businesses, and public sector entities. Over the past three years, we have contributed £300,000 to the Somerset Community Foundation alone. These initiatives underscore our unwavering commitment to giving back and creating a lasting, positive impact where it matters most.

“It’s amazing to be part of a company that genuinely cares about the community around us. Whether it’s supporting students at Yeovil College, helping families through Sherborne Foodbank, or getting involved in events like the Yeovil Charity Golf Day, you can really see the difference we’re making. I’m proud to work somewhere that believes in giving back and building lasting relationships with local organisations, it’s what makes Hunt’s such a special place to be.”

CHARITABLE GIVING

We have committed to donating a minimum of £150,000 to charitable causes. Thanks to the generous support of our community, we are not far from reaching an incredible milestone of £1 million for charitable giving from food donations, cash support or volunteering. This achievement reflects our dedication to making a positive impact and supporting those in need. Notable beneficiaries include the Devon and Cornwall Food Action Group and the Somerset Community Foundation, among other charities and community projects.

We are proud to support Devon and Cornwall Food Action Group’s mission of eradicating food poverty across the southwest of England. We recognised an opportunity to support the charity with chilled and frozen products that, due to short dates, we would have disposed of. Since the beginning of April 2022, we have delivered varying volumes of these lines daily to the charity, which they have put to good use supporting those families requiring support.

“Charitable giving has always been a huge part of the Hunts ethos. We believe in supporting local causes that make a real difference in the community. To have given over £1,000,000 to partners over the last 3 years is something our team is immensely proud of.”

TACKLING WASTE & EMISSIONS

Food waste is a significant issue in the UK, and Hunt’s Food Group is committed to addressing this challenge. We partner with food banks, charities, and community organisations to redistribute surplus food instead of letting it go to waste. Our canteens also utilise short-dated products, keeping food in circulation. It’s a win-win, our colleagues enjoy a hot meal every day which fuels them throughout their shift and we reduce food waste.

Transportation is another major focus, as it contributes significantly to carbon emissions in the food distribution industry. With a fleet of over 140 vehicles, we employ advanced route optimisation technology to reduce mileage and fuel consumption. Every mile saved means less fuel burned, cutting costs and significantly reducing our environmental impact. Our drivers are trained in efficient driving practices to minimise engine idling and unnecessary fuel usage.

For some time, Hunt’s Food Group have been buying renewable energy from the grid for a premium but has now moved to utilise all available roof space to generate energy directly on sites across the group. Hunt’s full 6-phase solar rollout will give the group a capacity of 1,800,000 kWh of electricity generated and utilised on-site per year. This could power a staggering 31,000 average UK homes for a week!

“At Hunt’s Food Group, we believe that sustainability is not just a responsibility but an opportunity. By redistributing surplus food, optimising transportation, and harnessing solar energy, we’re not only nourishing our communities but also safeguarding our planet for future generations. Every meal served, every mile saved, and every solar panel installed is a step toward a more sustainable tomorrow.”

STRONG PARTNERSHIPS

Hunt’s Food Group collaborates closely with its suppliers to prioritise sustainability throughout the supply chain. Through joint initiatives, we drive innovation in packaging, ethical sourcing, and responsible farming practices. Many of our partners are equally committed to reducing waste and enhancing supply chain transparency, amplifying the effectiveness of our sustainability efforts.

“We have built strong relationships with suppliers who understand that sustainability is not just a marketing term—it’s a business necessity. By prioritising partnerships with companies that are equally committed to environmental responsibility, we create a ripple effect that extends beyond our own operations.”
